Cuban Legalized Records

If you require a Cuban birth, baptismal, marriage, or death certificate for personal reasons or genealogical purposes, visit Cuban Genealogical Research. If your document is to be used in a foreign immigration authority, then legalization is required, first at Minrex and later at the consulate in Cuba of the country where such document will be used. Minrex (The Ministry of Foreign Affairs) is the body responsible for providing authentication services for Cuban documents taking effect abroad.

How the Process Works

  • You will be asked to complete all the information about the record you require to be legalized. You must know the municipality and province where the individual lived. If you do not know this information, preliminary research will be necessary to locate the document in Cuba.

  • Once the document is located in Cuba, a digital copy will be sent to you as confirmation.

  • The document will be submitted to Minrex (The Ministry of Foreign Affairs) for legalization.

  • It will then be submitted to the corresponding Consulate or Embassy for stamps or other services if the client requires this process.

  • If the document needs to be translated, my associates in Cuba will take the document to the official Cuban government agency in charge of document translation.

  • The legalized documents will be mailed to me from Cuba via DHL and forwarded to the client once the project is complete.

Before Starting Cuban Research

  • It is essential to know the municipio (municipality) and provincia (province), especially if your family was from one of the larger cities like Havana or Santiago de Cuba.

  • If this information is unknown, research may need to be conducted in the United States first by obtaining naturalization records, Social Security applications, plane manifests, or death records, where this information may be recorded. After that, research must be conducted in Cuba to determine the civil registry or ecclesiastical church where the event occurred.

If you do not know where the document is located in Cuba (municipio/folio/libro/numero), preliminary research needs to be conducted in the United States and then in Cuba to find the required document. This research is billed on an hourly basis. I consult with the client to determine how long it might take to locate the record with the appropriate service fees for the additional research.
