Society Applications

Minority eligibility applications is of particular interest to my research

Societies require documented proof of your ancestry called qualifying outlines. I set up the qualifying outlines between you and your eligible ancestor by evaluating your existing documentation, identifying alternative documents to fill in any gaps, and resolving missing information, conflicts, or errors in the documentation prior to submitting the final application to the society.

Services Offered

  • Evaluate existing documents

  • Conduct necessary genealogical research to link each generation

  • Identify alternative genealogical records to fill in any gaps

  • Resolve missing information conflicts

  • Provide proof arguments for conflicting information if allowed by the society

  • Submit the final application with supporting documents and proof arguments (if applicable).

Minority Research - Forgotten Patriots

Important contributions were made by African Americans, American Indians, and the Spanish in America's fight for Independence. Societies such as the Daughters of the American Revolution encourage the female descendants of these patriots to join the DAR's meaningful volunteer and educational work.

Spanish patriots of the American Revolution were residents of either Spanish Louisiana or Nueva España. Nueva España included portions of the present day states of Texas, California, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona, as well as Mexico.

Other Eligible Groups:

  • Spanish Forces that served in Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean.

  • Donativos: Carlos III, King of Spain, asked all subjects in New Spain to make a voluntary contribution to help fund the American Revolutionary War. Every citizen of Spanish America was asked to donate one or two pesos to the cause.

  • The Galvez Expedition: Many Spanish patriots served under Spanish General Bernardo de Galvez in his Gulf Coast campaigns. Some Spanish patriots were at the Battle of Fort San Carlos, in present-day Saint Louis, and others were recruited from the Canary Islands to the Louisiana Infantry Regiment.

Best Practices

"Before starting an application to a lineage society, the most important step is first to review the rules of that society. Understanding the application procedures and rules of evidence before working on the application is essential. Each society has different requirements; understanding them saves time and money."
